11/12/25: hellooooooo. the music log is back. I have been so obsessed with Geese's new album Getting Killed that I think everyone else is too (in my defense, this is true of student radio). When I listened to this album, I understood what lead singer Cameron Winter means when he says it's easy to make good music because no one else is trying very hard (paraphrased). Getting Killed is an existenitalist rock album that wakes you up from the start. the first song's lyrics are "there's a bomb in my car". I have been walking around listening to Islands of Men repeating to myself "Will you stop running away /
From what is real and what is fake" my other favorite tracts are Taxes and 100 Horses. Go listen to this album, espically if you're in that terrible rut where everything starts to sound the same. I also listened to Cameron Winter's solo album, Heavy Metal which he released before Getting Killed. It is not heavy metal, and it's definitley more folk than Geese, but I really like it. The existential strangeness is here, but my favorite track is love takes miles which is the closest thing to happy music he's gotten. you better start a-walking...
In other news, one of my favorite bands, Pigeon Pit, released an entire album out of nowhere!! Stream Leash Agression today!! To me it's a return to form - I didn't get very into their last album, but I loved this one from the start. My favorite track is thread the needle. "never slow down, white knuckle angel /
this is gonna take everything you have."
8/23/25: Ash Tuesday's new album aught! is out! Love seeing new music from her, spotify just let me know about this one. Going to be listening this weekend. It's been forever since I've listened to real music. I think spotify is terrible for intentionally listening to music...is anyone talking about that [everyone is talking about that!]. Been seeing a larger push for MP3 players, it's something I'm considering.
5/11/25: been blasting Strange Girl by Laura Marling, this week's site song. It came to me as the rare spotify smart shuffle gem, stomping throug a field. Sometimes a song tells you exactly what you need to know. Keep brave!
4/29/25: I've been listening to Monsters, a 2016 track that sounds almost exactly like Modern Baseball. "I keep trying to outline a better life But the pen's run dry, yeah, the pen's run dry" It makes me really curious about what the transition from Mobo to Slaughter Beach, Dog was.
4/16/25: It's been a minute! I have been into Haim's new single, Everybody's trying to figure me out, hoping for a summer album. I really did need the repeated lyric: "You think you're going to die / but you're not gonna die!" Lucy Dacus' new album Forever is a Feeling has me in a chokehold. Favorites are Best Guess, Forever is a Feeling, Big Deal, and Bullseye. How does being in love feel? Lucy Dacus: "You are my best guess at the future.". See also Chamomile by Field Medic for more gut wrenches.
9/25/24: It's Fiona Apple Fall. Fetch the Bolt Cutters has been a favorite for two years, but I'm finally getting into her older work.
5/18/24: Phobe Bridgers' Punisher is a summer album. I pretend to hear other opinions about it but I cannot be swayed.
5/6/24: Anywhere with You "Pack up all your shit and put it in the back Maybe the miles will make up For the things you lack I’ll go anywhere Anywhere with you" Maggie Rogers i love you!!!
5/6/24: Don't Forget About Me - Maggie Rodgers
4/28/24: Soft Animal - Long Neck from track 2, ants, "If I can't put a pen to paper what good am I? The calender says April but it's May June and July,"
4/21/24: Florida!!! - Taylor Swift, Florence + The Machine. Possibly my favorite song from Taylor Swift's new album.
4/3/24: 3 sisters - Waxahatchee from her new album, Tiger's Blood "If you're not living, then you're dying, Just a raw nerve, satisfying some futlie bottom line, all my life I've been running from what you want"
3/9/24: Self Respect - Bleachers -> "destroying somebody’s life as a means of saying...
“I’M STILL HERE AND I’M STILL PLAYIN’”
2/23/24: spotify daylist -> "you listened to NERVOUS and DIY on Friday evenings"
2/19/24: Decided to leave my dorm at 1am to investigate who would be in the 24hr section of the library. Loads of people. I think I have to investigate myself
2/5/24: so excited for The Past Is Still Alive to drop this month. Alynda Segarra is such a lyrist:
Now I'm out and I'm prowling,
You make me wanna start growling.
You will live forever as this bombshell
In my mind.
2/4/24: found a copy of the cyberfeminism index in my college library. I've looked at it online, but it's an entirely different thing to hold it in your hands, an index of an internet entirely different from the mainstream one.
1/31/24: Snake Plant (The Past Is Still ALive) "I know your face I know your smell. I know that you were living in hell." Have been listening to this all day. Hope to see them live this year
1/28/24: odie leigh's new single, No Doubt
1/25/24: this Mr. Floyd Larry playlist
