Tuner 2026
I rolled my eyes when I saw this trailer about a piano tuner who turns to a life of crime, but I was wrong. This movie is so fun. I saw it after the god-awful disclosure day, and from the first five minutes I was like wow these film makers really care about how their movie looks! crazy! predictable in a very fun way, but what did suprise is how the girlfriend, a piano player played by Hannah Liu Rose, didn't fit into the standard crime-movie girlfriend arch type. Not to give a movie props for the bare minimum on writing female characters, but that is in fact what I'm doing. The romance is compelling! Funny and jewish in a way the reminds me of a lot of guys I know. Everyone deserves to go to the movies by themselves and see a fun thriller. It is a summer requirement.
youtube hall of fame
I spent 2 months working a job where I could spend 8 hours listening to things, and I hate most podcast. Here were my favorite videos to watch/listen to:
MATTHEW RHYS SUMMER....
THE AMERICANS
Two russians spies are sent to DC to pose as a married couple, rasing two kids that have no idea about what their parents do for a living (they are just v busy travel agents!) and THEN an FBI agent moves in across the street from them. I don't think I've ever watched character study like this. From the pilot the central conflict is introduced: Philip (Rhys) is in love with Elizabeth, and Elizabeth (the incredible Kerri Russel) will put nothing above Russia. The fake marriage becomes a real marriage. There is an erotic tooth pulling scence. You just have to trust me on this one. It's about spycraft but REALLY its about marriage and self and country and the delusion it takes to maintain belief. Favorite seasons: 1, 4, 6!
WIDOW'S BAY
Just finished this an I am vibrating. Widow's Bay is so so so good and I watched it b/c after finishing the Americans I saw Mathhew Rhys on a poster for this. A magic mix of horror and comedy follows widow's bay, an island off the coast of Massachusets aka the next Martha's Vineyard. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) wants to invite the tourists in to his Island but some old guy keeps talking about a "curse"...enjoy your stay. Come for Matthew Rhys, stay for Kate O'Flynn, who plays one of the greatest strange women of all time, Patricia!! Her episodes were the best and she was my absolute favorite. Someone called the two of them gravity falls for adults and I can't get it out of my brain. Her episodes, espically 4x8 the halloween parody were so amazing. Good TV. Fun TV. Horror for wimps like me who need workplace comedy mixed in...and RENEWED FOR SEASON 2!!!
Anton "runs" a marathon!
New York's Hottest Club, the Gen-Z sitcom Adults, was renewed for season 2 (coming out on August 27, right when I get back to college with my favorite twenty-somethings), and on July 31st they released a prequel episode about how the group met Paul-Baker. Anton lied to his coworkers about running a mathaon and his friends need to help him preserve the ruse. Really felt like a redo pilot, this episode was so fun. Anton is an all-timer and I can't wait to see the season 2 hijinks.
